Do I need a diagnosis to have neurodivergent-affirming therapy?
If you're looking for a short answer to this question: No!
If you're looking for a longer answer, read on ...
There's a saying: "Meet one autistic person; you've met one autistic person."
We could change this to, "Meet one person, you've met one person.'
Neurodivergent-affirming therapy is less about ‘accommodating’ a particular neurotype and more about recognising that people experience, process and respond to the world differently, and allowing space for those differences in the therapy room.
So, whether you identify as neurodivergent, neurotypical or don't identify with these labels at all, you don't need a diagnosis - or any particular label - to work with a counsellor who, like me, practises in a neurodivergent-affirming way.
